Stringzville's repertoire of songs is a blend of three musical genres:
Gypsy jazz, which originated in France between the
two world wars. This is the music most often associated with legendary jazz
guitarist Django Reinhardt and his musical partner violinist Stephane Grappelli,
and harkens back to the exciting Jazz Age of Paris in the 1930s.
Bossa
nova, the cool, airy "Girl-From-Ipanema" music that
took the U.S. by storm in the early 1960's. This "Latin" music was
quickly embraced by such jazz luminaries as Ella Fitzgerald, Miles Davis,
Bill Evans, Herbie Mann, Charlie Byrd, and Gerry Mulligan.
Recognizable jazz standards, mainly from the Swing and Cool
periods of jazz history. Stringzville pays tribute to the music of such jazz
luminaries as George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Duke Ellington, Johnny Mercer,
Miles Davis, and Charles Mingus, just to name a few.
